Chico Greenline

The Greenline is a boundary that protects the prime agricultural land west of it from urban development. In 1982 the Butte County Board of Supervisors created the Greenline. The Greenline is somewhat controversial. Many folks, like former Supervisor Jane Dolan as well as the Butte Environmental Council, are big supporters of the Greenline and fight to sustain it. However, some land owners in the area would like to develop their land. So every five years the Butte County Board of Supervisors review the Greenline's boundaries. So far the Greenline has not changed since it was created in 1982.
